Pain Breeds Discontent

All work and no play makes Levi an angry monk.
All work and no play makes Levi an angry monk.
    All work and no play...

Four and a half fucking pages!
Four and a half fucking pages yesterday!
    I feel like a slave.
    But no more!

    Just one page today.

    Full of blanks...

    And skips...

    And empty spaces.

    Can you sense the anger?
    Can you sense the pain?
    Can you sense the frustration?

A hot, dry, cruel wind whips at your face abrading your skin with dust, sand, and gravel.  Feel the annoyance as it assaults your senses.  Dust cakes at your eyes, and crusts over your ears, while your throat is dry... parched... and desiccated -- now there’s a word for you.
You are tired and sick of this... this wandering through the desert, bullshit.
“Where is the fucking path?” you scream hoarsely, but it comes out as a whisper.

    A whisper?
Is it any wonder that you get no reply?

IF YOU WANT A RESPONSE YOU MUST YELL AND SCREAM TO THE VOID AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS.  THEN AT THE VERY LEAST, THE DESOLATE ROCKS AND EMPTY CANYON WALLS WHICH SURROUND YOU WILL ECHO A REPLY.

So scream again as hard as you can, “Where is the fucking way?”
Taste the anger.  It is the sand in your throat.
Own the frustration.  You are dying of thirst.
The wind whips at your eyes.
While salty tears bleed you of life.
Soon you will be nothing but anger and hate...
Yes.  Soon, you will be nothing...
But for the anger... and the hate.

And then -- just at the page mark, JUST AT THE FUCKING PAGE MARK!!! -- you see the way.

Flip the wheel over this, dance the bike over that, and with a well placed narrative aside...
Up ahead is a gravel path -- it is narrow and winding to be sure -- but with a dedicated roadway we can leave behind concerns of what lies underfoot... and what we might maim on the way.

    So it is time.
Let us open this sucker up... and without regard for the danger, let see exactly what we can do.

And that's it for the linear outtakes.
(Four more sections remain in the first chapter.)
But rather than posting that,
here's some bonus material,
as appears at the end of each chapter.
