Vision Quest

A Photo Effects Journal

Bookkeeping

Before linking to anything new, I believe that it makes sense to link to what I've already done.

Gilding The Lily was perhaps my first real attempt at photo fiction.

A story which ultimately lead to Tales of the Nav a blue shift futurist series of posts.

Which in turn lead to Through Emerald Coloured Eyes a more fantasy oriented series -- or so I would have you believe. This is currently a work in progress, so who knows where the stories will eventually lead.

From there, I feel the need to link to Transform Image Progression (a massive 50mb page) which is a pictorial guide of sorts showing how I finally managed to come to grips with what was happening while I was using imageMagick to transform a series of static images into morphing (twirling and deformed) 3-D gifs. A page likely of little interest to non-programmers or anyone not currently trying to come to grips with what is happening during an image transform.

And I do believe that brings us to my previous Games Tyrant Butterfly Effect Post. A post which sort of convinced me that I was currently far more interested in playing with pretty pictures than developing a game. So in a sense, that really is the first post of this series...

The bookkeeping done, it is time for my second link to the Butterfly Effect Filter Series. Perhaps fun with color channels would be another name for what I am doing here.

I was a busy little bee last week.

Stripe Test shows how to split an image into bands based on the intensity of color.

RGB Hypno Spaz is a test page for an Epileptic Seizure inducing Gif Effect. Let's just say it's interesting enough and leave it at that. It's highly doubtful that I'll ever use it for much. But it's conceivable to me that someone out there will find the effect exactly to their liking.

Finally, Color Gradient Edge uses the difference in color gradients to make a primitive sort of edge detector. Nothing fancy, but it works surprisingly well. And well, doing things a little differently from the next guy is the secret to creating original effects: a Hot Pink Pixie Android being the final slide on this page.

HoG UFO is a Histogram of Gradients Colourization Abuse Page. Not really sure what that means exactly. Tried to make a UFO Detector... I suppose, the less said about that, the better.

Also, lots of pretty pictures Colourized by a HoG Bandpass Filter. And Gee Whiz doesn't that sound all scientificy and techy. So, maybe we'll just call them more pretty pictures woven into a story of suspense and intrigue and leave it at that.

I used the numpy.ndimage.filters library this week.

First I looked at Min-Max Filters

Then a bunch of Assorted Filters to numerous to mention, which, of course, means that I shall: Gaussian Filter, Gaussian Laplace Filter, Laplace Filter, Prewitt Filter, Sobel Filter, and the Uniform Filter, before settling on the Guassian Graident Magnitued Filter to create a cool (if I do say so myself) Ghostly Aura Image Effect, which I used to create a Mannequin Comes to Life Story (of sorts, always of sorts).

A good week from my perspective. I really like this ghostlyAura effect -- nice soft blue greens in a ghostly (dare I say astral-ish) feel.

Good weekend, too. Here's another storyline, perhaps a bit more, um, fulfilling, satisfying, long term relevant? Making the Passage

A slow month in many ways. Most of my free time has been devoted to a lottery analysis. But I did manage to get one Ghostly Image Photo Fiction Story (rambling rant) done, which I'm calling . Footsteps in the Dark

July 31, 2014

And another Ghostly Aura Photo Fiction project entitled Island Dreams. One of these days I should make a Ghostly Aura landing page, but not today.

Has it been that long? Or am I just not posting to this page any more? Either way, the latest in Ghostly Aura fiction can be found here: Ship of Fools.

Not wanting to program nor coming up with a good idea for a straight text based story, I find myself going through my pictures, updating, sorting, and posting to the web. This is a Tales of the Nav story with a new filter - Coping with Shore Leave
