Honour
Sometimes, one writes to tell.
At others, one writes to find.
The author, suitably inspired.
The Basic System
Want to know the secret to personal improvement, making money, creating art, almost anything? It's the above. Nike had is right when they said Just Do It. If one doesn't know where to start, anywhere is fine. In fact, until one knows where to start, all starting points are equal...
More and More
I think doing less is pretty self-explanatory. But more isn't just copy-cat repetition: it's more of the same, of the like, and like kind.
Not rocket science.
Just Do It
But here we come back to where all starting points are equal if one doesn't know where to start. Unfortunately, I really don't know where to start with honour, not in the least.
- Write?
- Programming?
- Honour?
See, that last bit, Just Honour! Honour anything! doesn't mean anything to me. I, seriously, don't have the slightest idea where to begin.
Honour
Individual results will vary. I hope we can all agree on that. But for me, there are a few things that come seemingly close to honour or that some folks might fold into honour that I, personally, would not.
- Charity:
- Seems like a chumps game to me.
- Sorry, just not interested.
- Truth
- We live in a world of lies.
- Why would anyone want to hobble themselves needlessly?
I have a hard time coming up with other major categories. Though, in thinking it through, I perhaps have come closer to what I wish to call honour.
- Honour!
- The knowledge that one will not let oneself down.
And therein, perhaps, lies my difficulty in pursuing honour. For me, honour is more in sync with:
- Discipline
- Health
- Narcissism
- Hedonism
And I will concede that's not necessarily what others mean by honour. But I do believe, upon honest reflection, it is closer to what I mean: a pursuit of the self.
And in this regard, to pursue honour, myself, and all I can be, perhaps I should:
- Exercise
- Eat right
- Get enough sleep
- And enjoy life
It still seems like it's missing something:
Of course, that last one, soul, it maybe puts me right back where I started. How does one purify their soul? And make amends for their original sin, their place in society? The easy answer would be to turn their back on society. But I'm not willing to do that. So, perhaps, it means to embrace society on my terms, as a Man of Honour... whatever that means.

Do you feel any closer to Truth?
It may seem odd to you.
But I do.
