Debate Does a Disservice to Ideas


Debate should be about finding Truth.
Not about proving the other guy wrong.


Everyone who holds an idea has a reason for doing so; and understanding this cause, this reason, and the underlying belief system this entails are far more important than arguing against them or 'proving' any singular idea wrong.

High School Debate assigns points for countering one's opponents arguments.
Instead, it should give points for enriching those very same ideas and making those ideas better (richer, stronger, more divergent).
