- 2 Cups Basmati Rice
- Is this the good stuff?
- 3 Cups Liquid
- 1 Cup Thyme Water
- I used the Thyme Leaves for other things (see Thyme Honey, below).
- So, this was made from soaking Thyme Stems & Such in Water overnight.
- 1 Cup Flavoured Seltzer
- The flavour is Blood Orange.
- But that can't hardly make a difference.
- I thought it was a Soda when I opened the can last night.
- My mistake.
- It was not.
- This is the dregs.
- The flavour is Blood Orange.
- 3 Lemons
- Juiced
- Water
- Enough to bring the total volume of liquid to 3 Cups.
- 1 Tablespoon Thyme Honey
- Half Honey
- Half Thyme
- Having Fresh Thyme leftover from another dish, I decided to infuse some Honey.
- Meaning, I added the leftover Thyme to maybe twice the quantity of Honey.
- I think the Thyme will last slightly longer this way.
I brought the lot to boil, transferred into a casserole dish, and baked for 40 minutes at 350°, as that was a convenient period of time.
The Rice had a subtle mellow flavour. I don't know if I want to say it is worth seeking out. Certainly, I did not use enough Thyme to make any difference. But if time, effort, and money are no object, The Rice definitely tasted (and presented) better this way.
The process of Baking Rice is working out just grand for me. This batch had a slight dryness on the exposed top (under the casserole lid, as a lid is important). But otherwise, it's what I want out of rice.
So, yeah.
I am doing this again.
And although three Lemons was certainly not overpowering, it was enough to add a little sparkle.
I did not notice the Honey and would not bother with it next time.
