Not all food is created equal. I've had apples that tasted divine and others that were sour enough to pucker toes. Tropical fruit is no different. I figure, plantains are just bananas that simply don't taste so good; they're a bit pasty. Actually, it's amazing how many tropical fruits are a bit pasty... and then, from the right source, simply divine.
Anyway, starchy fruit, much like potatoes, taste a whole heck of a lot better fried and salted. So, I give you Fried Plantains with bacon and peanut butter. Truthfully, it was so-so, but so-so enough that I cleaned out the bowl and would have kept eating if there had been more.
Which perhaps, simply means, I'll have to try the combo on potatoes before too terribly long.
